Two arrested on meth charges

Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Two men were arrested after police found items used to make meth in their backpack.

William Apgar, 24, of Brooktondale, and Christopher Merkley, 25, of Ithaca were arrested just after 5 a.m. Saturday.

Ithaca Police saw the two men acting suspicious in the 100 block of Floral Avenue.

Police said when they stopped to talk, they found out Apgar had two active warrants.

Apgar was taken into custody without incident, according to police.

Police found multiple items that are used to manufacture methamphetamine inside of a backpack Apgar was carrying.

Merkley was also found to be in possession of items used to make meth, according to police.

Apgar and Merkley were taken to the Tompkins County Jail.

Apgar was charged with the following :
- One count of petit larceny, class A misdemeanor
- One count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, class A misdemeanor
- Two counts of unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine in the third degree, class D felony
- One count of conspiracy in the fifth degree, class A misdemeanor
- One count of unlawful possession of marijuana, violation

Merkley was charged with the following:
- Two counts of unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine in the third degree, class D felony
- One count of conspiracy in the fifth degree, class A misdemeanor
