Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) It's an area favorite the week before Easter. Sacred Heart in Johnson City held its bazaar today.
Long lines of people waited early for holubki, Ukrainian Easter eggs and ceramics among other items featured.

The church pastor says the Easter bazaar is notable because Easter is the most important feast day for Ukrainian Catholic christianity.

"It is a sign of life - rebirth in the world," said Father Teodor Czabala of Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church. "But also rebirth of our souls, rebirth of us as human beings because now we have a new understanding of ourselves in the resurrection of our Lord."

Other traditional Ukrainian foods on display included the pryohy, paska, kielbasa and Easter breads.

Part of the money raised will go towards completing the wooden church's renovation. Built in the 1970's the original cedar shakes have weathered a few too many storms and are being replaced with a synthetic siding.
