Unemployment drops in Binghamton

(WBNG Binghamton) Unemployment dropped in the Binghamton area, according to the State Department of Labor. The agency released preliminary findings Tuesday. Unemployment fell from 8.2 percent in October of 2012 to 7.3 last month. That's slightly higher than upstate, which came in at 6.8 percent. Tompkins County continues reporting the lowest unemployment in the state at 4.8 percent. The state economy also added 9,000 private sector jobs in October and nearly 25,000 in September. The total number of state private sector jobs is almost 7.4 million, which is a record high.
