Neighbors nudged Binghamton City Council members to take the muzzle off plans to open a dog park on the City's north side.

A plan to turn Cheri Lindsey Park into a bark park has been in the works for a few years.

City leaders say council members are expected to vote Wednesday on whether owners can unleash their dogs, allowing them to run free in the park.

Right now, owners must keep their dogs on leashes at city parks.

Monday, city leaders and residents made their case for the council to approve the move for a dog park.

"Dog parks are a great amenity for a community to have. They allow dogs and their human companions to get together and socialize in a safe and confined area," says the city's chief planner, Caroline Quidort.

City leaders say Choconut Creek Park in the Town of Union is the only dog park in Broome County.
