Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Johnson City Police answer more questions about the tragic shooting resulting in the deaths of Officer David Smith and James Clark.

Clark is responsible for pulling Smith's weapon and ultimately killing him.

The incident has law enforcement investigating into why Clark decided to shoot Officer Smith.

Johnson City Police Chief Joseph Zikuski says autopsy and toxicology reports are being conducted and the joint investigation with Binghamton, Johnson City, and State Police waits on those.

Clark's home and computer has been searched but nothing has come from that according to Chief Zikuski.

While not much has been learned of the investigation over the last day, a lesson has been learned.

"The good thing that comes out of this is it puts all the cops back on their guard. We all tend to slack off a little bit. In this case it wouldn't have mattered in these circumstances but these guys go to work every day protecting this community. Something like this could happen," Zikuski said.

Chief Zikuski says there are two possible theories about how Clark got Officer Smith's gun.

While Smith was being attacked, Clark could have removed the gun from Smith's Holster.

The second theory being that Officer Smith could have been removing the gun to protect himself and Clark was able to get it from him during the altercation.

Zikuski added that there will never be an answer as to how the incident occurred.
