Endicott, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Children at the West Endicott Park had the chance to test out new equipment for the first time on Tuesday.

The park added a new jungle gym packed with slides and climbing equipment.

"I hope many come here and create many, many memories as some of us have in our past years when we were youngsters and we came here, rode the merry-go-round, were in the pool and we were on the slide," said town of Union Supervisor Rose Sotak.

The project cost $75,000 funded through the federal Community Development Block Grant program.

Sotak said 135 children can play on the new equipment at one time.

"It's a great park," Sotak said. "It's a great little gem, very well kept and it's a great thing for the parents to come here. The mothers sit and their dads and everybody talks and it's just a wonderful little facility."

The park's previous equipment was more than 20 years old.

Sotak said it was becoming a safety issue with children getting splinters and some of the equipment was rusting.

She said she hopes to continue the park's upgrades with adding more swings in the near future.
