(WBNG Binghamton) New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman calls for a 10-percent tax exemption on home assessments for military members and their families.

Schneiderman proposed the TRAMS Act which would allow the more than 24,000 New York military members, or their spouses, to apply for a 10 percent tax exemption on their homes.

Those who serve in combat zones could get an additional 10 percent exemption.

Under this act, military members would apply to their local tax assessment office.

The exemption would apply to members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Reserves.
