Village of Owego, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Village of Owego leaders say a home in the Village is an eyesore and health hazard and they want to tear it down.

Kevin Millar, Village of Owego Mayor, says the Village is attempting to get entry into 93-95 Chestnut Avenue. The Village Code Enforcement wants to to assess the property for asbestos.

Millar says the house has been empty for 16 to 20 years and has major foundation damage. He says the house has gone to County Auction several times for back taxes.

In September, the Village Board voted in favor of taking the house down.

Now, Millar says the next step is waiting on the homeowner to sign a right of entry so the asbestos assessment can be done or they will get a court order to go in to the home.

The house is owned by Joe Breitweiser.
