Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Johnson City chose to observe Memorial Day with a parade to remind others of the day's true meaning.

The Johnson City Wildcats Marching band followed closely behind the village mayor, Greg Deemie.

Kids and veterans waved American Flags, and a ceremony marked the day at Veteran Park on Arch St.

Speeches were delivered in honor of those who fought for our freedom and for those who are currently overseas.

"People should just think about when they have their picnics and little BBQs, this day is to remember the veterans all around the world that are still making sacrifices," commander of the American Legion Post 758 Tom Nedlik said.

Veterans said they encouraged younger generations to honor the men and women who are in the service, because they voluntarily put their lives on the line for our country.
