Delhi, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Nearly 300 people rally in Delaware County to call on County Supervisors to listen to their concerns about natural gas drilling.
An anti-hydrofracking rally in Delhi brought out big crowds.
It was held in Courthouse Square, across the street from the County Building.
That's where the County Board of Supervisors were scheduled to meet Wednesady evening but the meeting was canceled.
The ralliers were hoping to get their attention to voice their opposition to natural gas drilling.
Delaware County Clerk Christa Schafer tells Action News it was the Board Chairman, Jim Eisel who made the decision not to have the meeting.
Schafer says only four resolutions were on the agenda for Wednesday and none were time sensitive.
Schafer says the meeting would have only lasted a few minutes.
"That was our hope when we scheduled the meeting prior to and during their meeting, sot hey would have an opportunity to hear some of the things being said today," said Stephen Dungan, Rally Organizing Committee.
"We have a board of supervisors in Delaware County that's been very gung-ho towards gas drilling. I think that's important for them to know, 300, 350 people showed up on a pouring rainy afternoon to get together to express their opposition," said Ken Jaffe, Delaware County.
Close to 50 people spoke out against hydrofracking at the rally.
The Delaware County Board's next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 22 at 1 P.M.
No one from the Board was available for an on-camera interview.
