Town of Chenango, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Weis Markets made its first installment of a major donation to the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse, or CHOW.
This truckload of food will help to stock the shelves for the more than 60 food pantries that CHOW operates.
With the current state of the economy and the holiday season, need for donations are at an all-time high.
Director of CHOW, Mike Leahey, said, "The donation means a lot. The holidays are the neediest time of the year for our program and for the participants of our program. We always have a hard time keeping up and Weis is a great partner in helping us stock and supply our program to meet the community needs."
Mike Ulmstead, District Manager of Weis Markets, talked about the importance of helping those less fortunate. "During this busy time of year, it's important to remember those in our community who are in need and the food banks do such great work in the community year round. It's a great time to give back."
CHOW distributes around 1.5 million pounds of food each year and organizers of today's event say that wouldn't be possible without donations like this.
