Town of Union, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A head-on crash sent a teen and woman to Wilson Hospital.

The crash happened just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday near Carl Street and Route 26 in West Corners, according to Marc Loveland, First Assistant Chief of West Corners Fire Department.

New York State Police said a northbound car driven by Howard Bell, 19, of Endicott crossed into the southbound lane, hitting the car of Lisa Mattioli, 42, of Johnson City head-on.

When Loveland arrived on scene, he quickly realized his team needed extra help.

"We got here and we had two patients that were severely trapped," Loveland said. "We called for the assistance of Endicott Fire to come over with their extraction tool. A partnership with them and us, we were able to extricate both patients from both vehicles."

Emergency crews needed to use the Jaws of Life.

Loveland could not comment on the condition of the drivers, but did say both were taken to Wilson Hospital.

According to the Action News crew on the scene, the cars were severely damaged.

A medical helicopter was initially called to the scene, however it was called off.

New York State Police is investigating the crash.

The investigation is on-going and no tickets have been issued.
