(WBNG Binghamton) As 2014 moved in, former Binghamton Mayor Matthew Ryan moved out.

The 62-year-old said he's going to reactivate his law license and move to Ithaca at some point during the month of January.

Ryan said he will miss being mayor and will spend more time fighting for various causes, like the movement against hydraulic fracturing.

He also said he's optimistic about the future.

"I'm in a good spot, I've got a beautiful wife. We're going to be happily living in Ithaca with our grandchildren. It will be a nice chapter of life going forward I hope, knock on wood, that i'll be around for a while," said Ryan.

Officials at Cornell University have reached out to Ryan about getting involved with a sustainability initiative.

The university wants to offer its students a curriculum on sustainability, though Ryan isn't yet sure what his role will be.
