Whitney Point, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Less than 24 hours after a fire destroyed a Whitney Point family home, the community came together to help a family that lost everything.

The fire swept through Keri Parker's residence at 2594 Main Street in Whitney Point Saturday morning. The blaze destroyed everything she and her five children owned.

Since then, neighbors and community members have banded together to collect donations for the family to help get them back on their feet.

Thanks to the use of social media, as soon as a need was identified, someone in the area volunteered to help out.

"I think Facebook has made it a lot easier," said donations organizer Mandie Burns. "When I started the group page, we had maybe 30 people and I think we're close to 150. I haven't checked recently, but I'm constantly checking messages and seeing what the posts are."

Burns and other volunteers are still looking for more donations.
