October 20, 2013 Updated Oct 20, 2013 at 9:07 PM EDT

The week of October 20th through the 26th is Winter Weather Awareness Week in New York. This yearly campaign aims to make people aware of the hazards winter weather can pose. It also strives to educate people on how to stay safe during the winter months.

A few items highlighted in the link below are snowfall definitions, lake effect snow and average temperature/snowfall through the northeast during the winter months.

By viewing the document you will also find a list of items you can put in your vehicle to make sure you are prepared for winter weather while away from home.
