Carlyle J. Schild, 94, of Vestal passed away at Wilson Hospital on April 19, 2009. He was born on November 22, 1914 in Binghamton NY. Carlyle was predeceased by his wife Doris (Harrington), his parents Michael and Anna Schild, sister and brother-in-law Leona and Carl Hoffer, brother Theodore Schild, brother and sister-in-law Harold and Marge Schild and in-laws William and Ethel Vanderlip and Cramer and Midge Harrington. He is survived by his son Mark of Vestal, sister and brother-in-law Doris and Bob June of Manlius NY as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins. Carlyle was a graduate of Johnson City High School (Class of 1934).

He retired from Endicott Johnson (Retail Division) as a Department Manager in 1980 with over 44 years of service. Having served our country in WWII (US Army, 28th Division 112 Infantry Regiment Company E), Carlyle is a member of a special generation of Americans who saved the world. He attained the rank of First Sergeant and participated in five battle campaigns (Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe). Carlyle was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a life member of the Broome County Beagle Club, he was also a former member of the Glendale Beagle Club as well as Square Deal Rod and Gun Club. Carlyle enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and was a member of the 1943 Broome County Softball Championship Team (Endicott Moose #1065). He was a longtime member of the Calvary Untied Methodist Church in Vestal. The Schild family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. James Jewell and his staff, physical therapist Matthew George and his staff, the Wilson Hospital Emergency Room Staff, the Wilson Hospital Cardiac Care Unit Staff, the Wilson Hospital South Tower 5 Staff, the Wilson Hospital North Tower 3 Staff and the Vestal Emergency Squad for the kindness and compassion they showed toward Carlyle.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 12:00pm at the Barber Memorial Home Inc., 428 Main Street Johnson City. His pastor the Reverend Robert Wood will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at 10:00am until the time of the service at the Barber Memorial Home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Carlyle can be made to the Disable American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati OH 45250-0301 or the Vestal Emergency Squad, 324 Myrtle Street, Vestal NY 13850.
