Wendell H. Miller, 86, of Binghamton, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 28th. Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 17, 1922 he was preceded in death by his parents, Harry H. and Elsie Krier Miller, and his son, Donald L. Miller. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Madeleine Park Miller, son Kenneth H. Miller and his wife, Judith, of Binghamton, NY , daughter Carol A. Lampton and her husband, Roger, of Sarasota, FL and son Stephen W. Miller and his wife, Susan, of Vestal, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren Geoffrey Miller, Stacey Miller, Sarah D’Esti Miller Rogers and her husband Claude, Joshua Miller and his wife Heather, Stephen Miller, Jr. and his wife Rebecca, Sterling Larnerd and her husband Brian, Christina Stevens and her husband Greg, Miller Sandow, Matthew Miller, Margaret Miller, Catherine Miller, Kara Mason and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Harry Miller and his wife Beth and his sister in law Marion Fabrey and her husband Robert. Wendell graduated from Syracuse University in 1943 with a degree in mechanical engineering and then served as a Lieutenant in US Navy during WWII. He moved to Binghamton in 1948 to join his father Harry at Miller Motor Car Corp where he served as President for over 50 years. Wendell was very active in the automotive community and served as President of the National Automobile Dealers Association in 1981, President of the New York State Automobile Dealers Association in 1972, President of Broome County Auto Dealers, Chairman of the Dodge National Dealer Council in 1968. Wendell was honored as a Sports Illustrated Dealer of Distinction in 1983, a Time Magazine Quality Dealer Finalist in 1985, and received the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 1987. He was also very active locally, serving his community as President of the Broome County Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Directors of Roberson Center, Methodist Homes for the Aging, Twin Tier home Health Care, Binghamton Boys Club, Binghamton Housing Authority, Boy Scouts of America, and Security Mutual Life Insurance Co. Wendell was a member of Binghamton Rotary, Binghamton Country Club, Binghamton City Club, 21 Club, Austin Putting Academy, Oteyokwa Lake Club, Delray Beach Club. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Kahlurah Shrine. Wendell loved to travel with Maddy and his family. He loved his time at Oteyokwa Lake and his time at the ocean. He loved his work and took great pride in the success of his business and employees. But, his greatest joy was Maddy, and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Willow Point Nursing Home and to Diane Altenweg for their gentle and loving care of Wendell. Funeral services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 10 Henry Street, Binghamton, NY Saturday at 10 AM the Very Reverend John R. Martinichio, Rector, will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 main Street, Binghamton, NY Friday from 4-7 PM In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Wendell may be made to the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Binghamton, 257 Washington St., Binghamton, NY 13901 or the Baden-Powell Council, Boy Scouts of America, PO Box 66, Binghamton NY 13903.
