Remembering The Lost

By WBNG News

Everyone in the community has their own feelings about Friday's horrific shootings.

But many found out at a vigil tonight at the First Assembly of God in Binghamton.

The road toward comfort, doesn't have to be traveled alone.

Action News Reporter Reed Buterbaugh has the story.

Five days after Friday's horrific shootings.

Hundreds of people packed the Assembly of God church honoring the victims for a vigil.

Saddened since last Friday.

With heavy hearts, they packed the church to just be together.

"I felt the need to be with other people to share in the grief," Florence Pinch of Binghamton said.

"I think it's just a terrible tragedy and I just had to come out here and be with all the people," Vicki Lewis of Binghamton said.

And it's rallies like this, that will help Binghamton on its long road to recovery.

"I feel that this is part of the healing as a community anytime we face something of this level of tragedy we need to know that we are together, even though we may not be directly affected yet we are affected by it," Pastor Jerry Terry said.

"I think by coming together it helps us to comfort one another, comfort the families involved and united that the community cares for one another," Mary Jo Graham of Binghamton said.

14 candles were lit, each symbolizing one of the lives lost that day.

During the vigil, religious leaders emphasized the community will be defined by their reaction not by the shooting.

"And if when things hurt and things don't make sense we can look to him and we can know that he can make all things right with my soul," One of the religious leaders said.

The crowd looked to raise up their collective heart.

Hoping a ray of light would brighten this dark time.
