Securing Citizenship

By WBNG News

Our representatives in Washington want to honor the victims of the American Civic Association shootings...with citizenship.

During a news conference today, Congressman Maurice Hinchey said he's working to secure American citizenship for the immigrant victims killed in last Friday's shooting.

He says the state department is cooperating with that goal.

The democrat believes it would be a fitting tribute to all the hard work they accomplished before the tragedy.

"Just bringing up their citizenship of our country which will be a recognition of them and their sacrifice and it will also be helpful to all the remainder of their families who are here as well," said Hinchey.

U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand are also pushing for legislation that grants posthumous honorary citizenship.
