United Way Establishes Fund to Assist Those Impacted by American Civic Association Tragedy
United Way of Broome County has established a fund to assist the victims, families and community impacted by the recent shootings at the American Civic Association. Any monies raised will be used to provide financial assistance beyond what local, state and federal programs support. Anyone wishing to donate can do so by contacting the United Way office at 101 South Jensen Road, Vestal, New York , at (607) 729-2592, or by mailing a check or money order to the following address:

Please make checks payable to the United Way of Broome County and write “American Civic Association Fund” on the memo line. Information is available on the United Way web site, www.unitedwaybroome.org. Contributions can also be made at any Citizens Bank office in Broome County.

“We are creating a separate committee to establish policies and guidelines for use of these funds to insure that our community’s concerns are met,” explained Alan Hertel, Executive Director of United Way of Broome County. “Every penny contributed will be used to assist those in need–none of the money will be used for administrative purposes. We are all terribly saddened by the senseless loss of life and pledge our support as we move forward through our healing process,” stated Hertel.
