ACA Memorial Garden Uprooted

By WBNG News

A memorial garden in remembrance of those who died in the American Civic Association shooting, has been uprooted.

Fourteen tulip bulbs were planted Friday morning at Confluence Park in Binghamton.

One plant for each person who died, including the gunman Jiverly Wong.

Binghamton City Hall was alerted yesterday, that one of the tulips had been dug up.

Mayor Matt Ryan says he stands by the decision include flowers for Wong, saying his family is hurting too.

"We understand that there are some strong emotions surrounding this and we didn't mean to hurt anybody's feelings or cause anymore pain that was already caused by this tragedy for anyone who is suffering," said Ryan.

Ryan says he's unsure whether the city will replant a 14th tulip.

Last weeks Memorial March and service was organized by the Broome County Council of Churches.
