An envelope addressed to a U.S. senator tested positive for ricin, a potentially fatal poison, according to the FBI.

The envelope was intercepted at an off-site capitol mail facility in Maryland. The item was addressed to republican Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi but the envelope never made it to the capitol building.

The FBI and U.S. capitol police are both investigating the incident.
