22-year-old man killed trying to foot-race across tracks to beat train

According to a report from Granite Broadcasting sister station Indiana's NewsCenter in Fort Wayne, Ind., a 22-year-old man was struck by a train while trying to cross the tracks in New Haven, Ind. last Friday.

According to the report from Indiana's NewsCenter:

The New Haven Police and EMS units were dispatched to a personal injury accident at the railroad crossing shortly after 11 p.m. Friday.

Witnesses at the scene told police they were walking to a nearby gas station and heard a train whistle and wanted to beat the train by running on foot across the tracks. The witnesses the stopped running because they weren't going to be able to get across before the train, but the man continued running and was struck at the crossing.

The Allen County Coroner has released the cause of death as blunt force trauma.
