Vestal Police are warning the elderly of a scam that's targeting them.

They're calling it the "grandparents scam"

Police say the scammer calls an elderly person, claiming to be their grandchild.

They say they are in an emergency and need money immediately...and then ask you to wire it to them.

Police say a 69-year-old vestal woman was contacted Friday.

But fortunately did not give any information out.

Vestal police warn you to never send a money order or a check, without knowing for sure if it's your relative involved.

If you think you're being scammed call your local police.

Or dial 1-877-FTC-HELP.
