Paterson Offers Ethics Compromise

July 22, 2010 Updated Feb 6, 2010 at 11:40 PM EST

After Governor David Paterson veto's an ethics reform bill, he admits he'll budge a bit in a compromise.

Paterson has proposed a new version that would create a commission to weigh possible conflicts of interest between elected officials and their law clients and income.

But officials would not have to make those clients public.

It also includes elements pushed by the Republican minority of the Senate.

The enraged Legislature is threatening to override the Governors veto.

Paterson says Democratic leaders have resisted his attempt to negotiate a compromise, although lawmakers say otherwise.
