Fighting Cuts to NY Environmental Protection

July 22, 2010 Updated Mar 10, 2010 at 7:23 AM EST

Environmental groups are pushing New York lawmakers to restore funding to the state's Environmental Protection Fund.

The Fund was established in 1993 to provide money for projects like landfill closure, recycling facilities, and open space protection.

Governor David Paterson is proposing cutting the fund by about 30 percent this year because of the state budget deficit.

A coalition of environmental groups have launched an ad featuring the state's official animals -- the bluebird, snapping turtle, beaver and brook trout -- submitting their resignations.
