The Cannonsville Reservoir in Delaware County will expand the area open to boating.
The Department of Environmental Protection will open up 5 more miles to recreational boating.
The DEP manages the reservoirs that make up the New York City watershed.
It announced recreational space will expand from the Cannonsville Bridge west toward the Cannonsville Dam.
A new launch site will be constructed at Roods Creek.
The DEP is in the second year of a 3 year pilot program for boating on the reservoir.
In a statement, Commissioner Cas Holloway said quote " Opening up the remaining third of the Cannonsville Reservoir for families and visitors ensures that as many people as possible can take advantage of this great resource and has the added benefit of encouraging tourism and economic activity in the region.”
Delaware County Board Chairman James Eisel added the county has found no negative impact from the boating program.
Seasonal boat tags are available by appointment with the DEP Downsville Regional Office at 607-363-7009.
