It's a effort to get elementary and high school students onto college campuses and introduce them to the sciences through a series of labs.
Around 200 students spent the day at Binghamton University.
Older students learned about everything from homeland security software to facial recognition.
Organizers say lab day gives students a chance to seriously consider a career in the field of science.
"It's a chance to ask questions about what sort of preparation they need to be concerned about, what sort of classes they need to take while they're still in junior or high school." said Rachek Coker research Advancement Coordinator
The younger students were not left out of today's fun. They were able to learn about colors and light during an optics lab.
