Emerging Trends And Changes In The Labor Market

John Twomey presented information to members of SUNY BEST.

Twomey is the executive director of the New York State Association of Training and Employment Professionals.

He talked about emerging trends and changes in the labor market and challenges we face in the 21st century economy, such as improving a large part of out workforce's literacy skills.

"New York State is 49 out of 50 states with the number of people in the lowest literacy level. 22% of all of our working age people. So for the 21st century knowledge economy we're going to have to do a better job." said John Twomey

SUNY BEST is a volunteer group with members from educational and economic institutions throughout the Southern Tier.

The group works to provide outreach and information for businesses, as well as form alliances to strengthen local industry.
