Albany, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Environmental groups say New York isn't doing enough to protect people from potentially harmful outdoor wood boilers and they plan on taking the Department of Environmental Conservation to court.
The American Lung Association in New York and other advocate groups are saying that pollution limits need to be put on the wood boilers immediately.
The DEC made a ruling in December, saying all outdoor wood boilers, or OWBs, sold after April 15th would fall under the new regulations.
On April 15th, however, the rule change was delayed for three months.
The organizations say the OWBs can increase asthma symptoms.
They're now asking the Supreme Court of New York to stop the DEC from allowing the continued sale of the wood boilers that do not meet the new standards.
