September 3, 2010 Updated Sep 3, 2010 at 5:26 PM EST

Binghamton, NY(WBNG Binghamton) Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for reform on government transparency.

Alongside Broome County leaders, the democrat addressed her effort to make Congress more open and accountable.

Her agenda aims to reduce special interest influences on elections, forbid Senators from anonymous obstructing legislations and end Automatic congressional pay raises.

Gillibrand also wants to make the federal funding request process fully transparent so people can judge for themselves on how politicians spend their money.

"Can government solve the problem? Government's broken, Washington's broken. Is anyone listening? And that's why this transparency agenda is so important. Because if we don't have a Washington that works for everyone, we can't solve the problems and create jobs," said Gillibrand.

The New York seat currently held by Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand is up for election in November.

She faces the winner of the Republican primary between David Malpass, Joe DioGuardi, and Bruce Blakeman.
