(WBNG Binghamton) A major hurricane is expected to head up the East Coast this weekend.
Hurricane Earl is kicking up the surf along the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
On Thursday, there was a hurricane warning in effect along much of the East Coast.
The Director of the Northeast Regional Climate Center at Cornell University says Earl is following the path of a hurricane dating back to 1936; it's brushing Cape Cod and bringing winds up to 90 miles per hour through Boston.
"For the Binghamton audience, not much that the real impact of the storm will hit Binghamton. We may see a few showers that are associated with the storm. Saturday, likely to notice the winds, which will be the remnants of the storm. But nothing like you'll see on the coast," says Art Gaetano, Director of the Northeast Regional Climate Center.
