(WBNG Binghamton) Governor Andrew Cuomo announced nearly $14 million dollars will go to farmers across New York State to protect water and soil qualities.

The money comes from the State Soil and Water Conservation Committee and the State Department of Agriculture and Markets.

The grant will help more than 200 farms throughout New York.

“Farmers rely on high quality soil and water resources for their operations,” said State Agriculture Commissioner Richard Ball. “The relationship between county soil and water conservation districts and farms spans generations. I’ve relied on them for my own operations and thousands of other farmers have as well. This state funding will help facilitate the highly important partnerships between farmers and their districts now and in the future.”

Broome County will see more than $170,000 and Tioga County will receive just over $100,000.

Governor Cuomo said investing in state farms will keep agriculture competitive.

More specifically, the grants will provide funding to county soil and water conservation districts to address water quality challenges facing farms.
