(WBNG Binghamton) The AMBER Alert founder and FBI has joined police in Maine in the search for a missing teenager from Glenburn.
According to a news release:
Fifteen-year-old Nichole Cable was last seen on Sunday night. Now both her mother and police are asking for the public's help to bring her safely home. The teen was last seen at her home on Spruce Lane before she left to meet a friend at the end of her road on Route 221.
It wasn't until the next morning that her family realized she never came back.
Penobscot County Sheriff's detectives were back at the house Tuesday, while game wardens with dogs searched the nearby woods for any signs of her. None were found.
Local and state police, the FBI and the Center for Missing and Exploited Children are all assisting in the search.
It's been widely reported on a Facebook site "Bring Nichole Cable Home" that she may have been abducted by a man who was using a fake identity on Facebook, but police would only say that this is an active missing persons investigation.
They said they are following those leads and using resources from the computer crimes unit to search phone and computer records.
Family members say Nichole has run away before and as hours turned into days her mother is hoping that's the case now.
