Oneonta, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A school for children with developmental disabilities is getting ready for some new additions.
More than $22 million dollars was raised for the Tom Golisano School at a Springbrook facility in Oneonta.
Some of the new additions include a full size gym, three new residential houses, and a six classroom autism wing.
Organizers say it's about bringing the children closer to their homes for the special care they need.
"It'll serve thirty six students, twenty four of whom are currently placed out of state. This is part of our 'coming home campaign'. That's what we're calling it. Our T-shirt says 'who says you can't go home?' We're bringing everyone home," says Beth Peterson of Development Operations.
The project will also add 112 permanent jobs, in addition to the construction jobs.
It will allow funds to stay in New York state, saving up to $900,000 dollars each year.
