New York State is raising the bar on math and English tests.

The state Board of Regents says it's completed a review by experts, and it's going to start requiring students in grades three through eight to score higher on standardized tests to be considered proficient.

The board points to testing results from recent years that show more New York students scoring as proficient in math and English, while their national standardized test scores have stayed the same.
