(WBNG Binghamton) The State University of New York on Friday announced that approximately 20,000 notices will be sent to current and former students who may be eligible for a tuition refund as a result of paying non-resident tuition while eligible for the in-state rate between the Fall 2007 and Spring 2011 semesters.
According to a news release:
Students who may be eligible will receive a notice from SUNY in the coming weeks, and may include those who:
• Graduated from an approved New York State High School or received a GED in New York State; and
• Attended one of the SUNY schools listed below at any time from the Fall 2007 to the Spring 2011 terms; and
• Paid the Non-Resident Tuition Rate (also called the out-of-state rate).
To receive any money, eligible students must submit a Claim Form by September 4, 2013, to:

Affected campuses are: UAlbany, Alfred State, Binghamton, Brockport, University at Buffalo, Buffalo State, Canton, Cobleskill, Cortland, Delhi, Downstate Medical Center, Empire State College, Environmental Science & Forestry, Farmingdale State, Fredonia, Geneseo, Maritime, Morrisville State, New Paltz, Old Westbury, Oneonta, Optometry, Oswego, Plattsburgh, Potsdam, Purchase, Stony Brook
SUNYIT, and Upstate Medical University.
The notices are being issued as a result of a recent class action settlement agreement in the case of Strum, et al. v.. SUNY, et al., brought by two former Binghamton University students on behalf of themselves and other individuals thought to be eligible for a tuition refund in accordance with New York Education Law, section 355(2)(h)(8).
Also as a result of the agreement, SUNY has made its notices and publications on the costs of attendance clearer, so that going forward, students will be aware of their eligibility for the in-state tuition rate based on New York State high school graduation or GED.
