State Senators Skip Special Session

July 29, 2010 Updated Jul 29, 2010 at 4:34 AM EST

Some State Senators blow off Governor Paterson's special session.

Paterson scheduled the session for Wednesday evening, but 9 Senators didn't show up, so the Senate didn't have enough votes to pass any bills. The session lasted just 4 minutes.

Paterson has called for another special session at 10:00am Thursday.

Two days of sessions costs taxpayers about $100,000, even if nothing is accomplished

If the senate doesn't reach a deal Thursday, Paterson says he'll continue to call lawmakers to Albany until they finalize the budget.

One of the 4 absent Republicans Wednesday night was George Winner of Elmira. The 5 Democrats missing were all from New York City.
