Ithaca, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Cornell University scientists are on a mission to create a safer Internet.

The National Science Foundation is reaching out to 10 institutions to research ways to better protect and secure users.

They will share in a $7.5 million dollar grant.

Cornell will get about 1 million dollars of that money over a 3-year research period.

The "Nebula Project aims to improve data and procedures for homes, hospitals, and also reduce power usage.

Researchers say cloud computing is a key focus of the project, allowing people to do even more things from their laptops and mobile devices.
