(WBNG Binghamton) Vestal Police and the Broome County Sheriff's Office are investigating multiple recent burglaries in Vestal and the town of Chenango.

Police said two burglaries happened in Vestal on Thursday between 7:40 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.

The two houses, on Pierce Hill Road and Main Street, are less than a mile from each other. One of the houses was occupied at the time, according to police.

Police said it appears the suspect, or suspects, were looking for prescription medication.

A woman that lives between the two houses said she found a man trying to enter the screened porch behind her house around 8:45 a.m.

She described him as a white man, wearing a knit winter hat and driving a dark blue sedan.

Police said when confronted, the man claimed to be from an insurance company and had the wrong house. He quickly ran off.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office said it's investigating similar residential burglaries that have happened throughout the week in the town of Chenango.

Deputies are looking to identify a white man with a thin build and short dark hair.

That man was wearing a visor on his head and was seen driving a small, dark blue car that may have been a hatchback, deputies said. The vehicle was reported to have a white license plate with dark lettering.

Police ask if you have seen any suspicious activity, have had a stranger appear at your door or have any possible information about these incidents to call Vestal Police at (607) 754-2477 x347 or the Broome County Sheriff’s Office at (607) 778-2053.
