Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) The Binghamton Police Department recently added a new four-legged officer to its department.

Rambo is a 16-month-old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois.

His handler and supervisor of the K-9 unit, Christopher Bracco, has trained Rambo with the help of other officers.

Bracco and others are employing a new method, which allows the officers to mold the dogs early.

A majority of the costs for Rambo were donated by the Community Foundation of South Central New York and other community organizations.

Rambo cost $7,500.

Donations are also used to cover food, veterinary care, medication, bills, training and equipment.

Bracco says Rambo is already proving himself on the streets.

"The other night when Rambo led us to a burglary suspect, the suspect was in the bushes in the fetal position. Rambo went in and acknowledged he was there," Bracco said.

The department bought Rambo as a 6-month-old puppy.

He will live with Bracco throughout his life and service with the Binghamton Police Department.
