(WBNG Binghamton) Phelps Mansion Museum is hosting an Edwardian Tea on May 19.
The event is at 191 Court Street in Binghamton, and is inspired by the very popular PBS-TV program "Downton Abbey" on Sunday, May 19.
From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. guests will tour the mansion and view an exhibit of vintage wedding dresses followed by an Edwardian Tea from 3-4:30 in the museum's ballroom.
The tea offers a menu of freshly-baked homemade scones and tea breads with Devonshire cream and strawberry-champagne jam, an assortment of finger sandwiches, and a delectable array of desserts along with tea and lemon punch. Some of the desserts will remind guests of certain episodes of the series.
Guests are invited to wear their hats, gloves, jewelry, or fashions of the era, though it is not required.
Seating in the ballroom will be at tables of four, each "named" after one of the prominent characters of the TV show. The room will be decorated with gorgeous hats as well as other decor to suggest the Edwardian period. Piano music will be played throughout the afternoon on the museum's grand piano on the stage. Little cards at each table will instruct on tea etiquette and manners.
Admission is $25 per person and reservations are required by Thursday, May 16, by calling Regina Feltham at (607) 722-7534. Your check is your reservation. Seating is limited.
