Attempted murder trial begins Tuesday

Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Jury selection is finished in the trial of a Binghamton man charged with trying to kill his girlfriend.

Ralph Townsend, 53, is charged with attempted murder.

He's on trial in Broome County Court.

In August 2012, Binghamton police found Townsend on top of his girlfriend stabbing her.

They forced their way into the apartment at 6 Miles St. and shot Townsend twice in the back.

His girlfriend was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but survived.

Townsend is also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and assault.

Opening statements are set to begin Tuesday.
