Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton University Students ushered in the school year this weekend at the 21st annual University Fest.
Nearly 300 campus organizations and vendors tabled at the Harpur and Peace Quads.
"It's the largest turnout we've had in the 9 years that I've been running this, which is very, very exciting,” said Jennifer Keegin the Associate Director of Campus Activities.
Different departments were set up so students could get a look at the academic side of campus.
There was also a kids’ area so faculty members’ children could play.
"This process for putting this together takes all summer long because we put together all the vendors, we recruit vendors to campus.” said Keegin. "We sign up the student organizations over the summer and then we work with the departments to see who wants to come out and table" she added.
The event appealed to both incoming students as well as returning students.
"Well we're juniors so we've seen this before but I feel like they've made it bigger since the previous two years that we've been here so it's really great to see all the little freshman to really come out and enjoy themselves but also see lots or returning faces” said Connie Chan, a junior student at BU.
The celebration will continue Sunday with Rec Fest at the Recreation Center from 1 to 5 pm.
Students will get to explore club sports teams, take fitness classes and even win a chance to ride down a zip line at the grand opening of the challenge obstacle course.
Class being on Tuesday September 2nd.
