Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) During the past fiscal year, Binghamton University received nearly $13.5 million from donors. That's a 70 percent increase from previous years.
To highlight the impact of the donations, BU celebrated their first Tag Day on Thursday.
"We have an amazing alumni base and base of supporters and this day is really for them," said Caitlyn Carlson, director of The Binghamton Fund.
Donations from alumni, students and friends of the university go towards filling the financial gap that isn't met through state aid and tuition.
All around campus, there were more than 500 green tags on buildings or gifts donated like pieces of art.
A new student philanthropy group also started Thursday on campus.
The group’s job is to let students know how donor support helps students on an everyday basis.
On Thursday, they were handing out green pins in the University Union that say "I Benefit" and "I Give Back" to promote student and alumni support for BU.
