Kirkwood, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A man is dead after being struck by a repeat drunk driver early Sunday morning while bicycling home from work, the Broome County Sheriff's Office said.

The bicyclist, Bradley R. Murray, 30, of Binghamton, died of his injuries at Wilson Hospital following surgery, according to a release by the sheriff's office.

The driver of the vehicle that hit Murray, 34-year-old Branden Bowen, of Waverly, was arrested and charged with DWI, his second such charge in 10 years, making this one a Class E felony.

The sheriff's office says Murray left work at Frito Lay shortly before being hit, and was presumably headed home.

The incident happened at approximately 3:10 a.m., Sunday on Upper Court Street in the town of Kirkwood. The sheriff's office said Murrary was riding on the road's shoulder.

The release said the eastbound lanes near the 700 block of Upper Court Street were closed for accident reconstruction.

Bowen remains in the Broome County jail following his arraignment in the Town of Kirkwood Court.
