Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Pa's Woodshed shut down in October of 1995 but what people remember most about the building is the Big Chair.

The building was built over one century ago in 1892, as a chair company. In the 1970's, Pa's Woodshed opened, and for two decades their signature was the huge chair that sat on top of the building.

The 24 feet 9 inch chair had a 12 square foot square seat. In 1979 the chair made the Guinness World Book of Records for the largest chair in the world.

The chair sat up on top of the multiple story brick building.. And anyone driving by on 81 could see it. It became a staple landmark for directions around Broome County.

But Broome County Historian, Gerald Smith, said it wasn't the only big chair at Pa's. He said, "Inside the store they had (what I would say was) one of the largest wing back chairs I've ever seen. Kids could climb up a ladder and sit in this chair that sat about 12 feet in height."

The chair sat on the roof of the building for over a decade after Pa's Woodshed closed. But it always drew the question of: Where did it go?

Smith has the answer, he said, "From what I can tell it rotted away. It's a big wooden chair and the elements just got to it and it looks like it sorta collapsed in on itself, cause one of the legs was still on top for a short little while."

Smith also said that the chair was originally taken off of the roof because the owners thought it was a safety hazard.
