Vestal, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Binghamton University celebrated the completion of a project Thursday that's been 10 years in the making.

The East Campus Housing Project is complete -- and just in time. Students move in late next week.

The 1 million-square-foot project is comprised of the Dickinson Community and adds 3,000 new beds to campus.

It's all part of NYSUNY 2020 plan to increase enrollment and growth on campus.

The four-building unit cost $375 million, which will be paid back through student fees over the next 30 years.

University officials said they're excited to bring to students a living space that's about much more than a place to sleep at night.

"The living learning environment is what we're trying to emphasize here. There are classrooms in this building where people will take classes, along with the lounges where they will host their social events," said BU President Harvey Stenger.

The university is looking forward to filling the rooms with students and keeping students on campus longer.
