Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A study of Binghamton's downtown parking situation moved one step closer to completion.

Binghamton Mayor Rich David announced Monday the city of Binghamton secured $50,000 from the Binghamton Metropolitan Transportation Study.

The BMTS policy committee voted to spend the money on the study last week.

The city will match the funds, bringing the total cost of the study to about $100,000.

“For some time, I’ve been a vocal advocate for a comprehensive and strategic parking study so that we can put a realistic and effective plan in place to meet our long term economic development needs,” said David R-Binghamton. “Unfortunately very little has been done to address the parking issues in recent years and now we are feeling the impact from the lack of planning.”

BMTS, along with the city, will set a time-frame for the project and pick a consultant to oversee the project.
