Syracuse, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A regional icon speaks his mind about a controversial topic.

Syracuse men's basketball coach, Jim Boeheim, revealed his thoughts about increasing gun control following Monday's game in Syracuse.

He said, "If one person in this room, the NRA preisdent, anybody, can tell me why we need assault weapons with 30 shots in the thing...this is our fault, this is my fault, this is your fault, this is all your faults."

Boeheim added that we need to "get out and do something about this."

The comments come after the tragic school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday.

With last night's win over Detroit, Boeheim became just the third NCAA coach to amass at least 900 wins.

Boeheim and the Orange will take on Temple on Saturday as Boeheim goes for his 901st win.
